These were purchased at a salvage freight sale earlier this year, and they were brand new in a huge unmarked box. We packaged them in heavy Ziplok bags for resale. Presumably, these we a manufacturing part that somehow never made it to the factory. They are NOT a complete switch assembly. But if you're the type of guy who likes to make his own, there's no reason why you couldn't start with a batch of these. Just slip a flat pressure-activated switch inside, feed the cable through the hole in the end, and adhere to a surface of your choosing.
We tested with various sizes of drill rod, in case you're wondering what size switch wire you can use. The hole in the end of the boot should stay waterproof with about a .116" / 2.94 MM diameter cable. You probably could go as large as .147" / 3.75 MM without splitting anything. They seem to be some kind of silicone rubber material, as it has almost no odor, and it is very soft and stretchy.
